#003 Does wearing gold chains improve health?

I believe that people, basically wear gold chains on their necks, for ornamentation purposes.

A materia medica published at Rajahmundry (Andhra Pradesh, India) in 1900 and reprinted many times, indicates that wearing gold chains improves health. Reduces vAta dOSha (problem of wind - intestinal gases and inflammations owing to accumulation of air in the system) and paitya dOSha (problem of bile, liver related ailments such as jaundice, gall bladder troubles, lack of hunger, skin rashes, excess talking etc.).

It is not clear, how the writer came to such conclusion.

He has included a similar notation in case of diamond jewels also.

One problem with Indian AyurvEda is, it evolved through centuries old practices, procedures and processes of treating emperors, kings , landlords and rich merchants. They had plenty of gold at their disposal. They could afford diamonds. The vaids (physicians), naturally got obsessed with these peripheries unrelated to human suffering. The doctors, had to pamper to the fancies of the royal patients.

It will be unscientific to outrightly declare that wearing gold in necks does not have any positive or negative effects.

I feel that deeper and extensive clinical studies are necessary, with the help of those citizens who wear gold and diamond and who do not wear.

The flaring diamond, gold and silver prices, anyway, do not allow people to wear the stuff.
